1. (re. Sky Plus adverts). When did it become such a personal tragedy to miss a tv programme? Get a life, Kelly Brook (whoever you are, I'm genuinely not sure) it's better than watching tv.

2. (re. a snippet of X Factor I had the misfortune to see the other day). When did X Factor turn into Oprah? There was this bloke banging on about how he had grown up in foster care and wanted to do well at X Factor so his birth family would be proud of him. Really, someone needed to take him aside and explain that This Is Not The Answer To Your Problems. Furthermore, if his birth family suddenly get in touch and want to be family again only after he wins a TV talent contest, I'd have said that was a fair indication it's better to stick with the foster family, who looked after him even before the fame and fortune.

3. People telling you you're 'doing a great job' in difficult circumstances are trying to be encouraging, but actually it makes it a lot harder to say to them 'no I'm not, please help.' (I confess I'm not entirely sure what the solution to this is, as it is nice to have a bit of encouragement occasionally too.)

4. If we're not going to be eligible for occasional respite care, why even mention it? I was happier when I didn't even know of the possibility. Saying 'this help is available, but not for you' is just MEAN, people.

5. I really, really need to sleep.
