Some years later, and band of gypsies came down the road to the village. They saw the ruins of the house and gathered there to camp for the night.
Under the remains of a bed in one of the chambers, they found the thing the devil had made, of bones amd tendons and hair. The gypsies were clever, and soon realised they could make music with the things. They made more like them, from wood, sheep gut and horsehair, and found that they could play the music which told of their wanderings, of their joy, their sadness and their longings.
Still today, wherever there are gypsies, there will be the music of the devil's violin. The music of joy, sadness, and longing.
