The hot water tank is making a funny noise. About a fortnight ago, our hot water became inexplicably hot, (two settings: off or steaming) and this evening Mr b has detected a noise which sounds a lot like bubbling coming from the hot water tank.

Some questions, before I phone My Dad Who Knows About These Things in the morning:
1. Is this going to be a problem?
2. If yes, is it: a) a problem with the water, in which case I should get a plumber, or b) a problem with the elderly boiler, in which case I should get a gas boiler person?
3. Can anyone give me the number of a) a plumber or b) a gas person in the Abergavenny area?
4. If it is a boiler/gas related problem, what is the likelihood of the gas person telling me that the boiler really is very elderly and needs mending with a new one, which might well entail losing the hot-air heating we love and having to have radiators which we don't want put in as you don't seem to be able to get hot-air heating any more, at a cost of £much?
5. Can anyone lend me £much?
6. Is the tank going to go pop in the middle of the night and boil us in our beds?

(Edited later to add question 6, which is probably the important one, and I have turned the water off now.)

Thank you for your kind attention.

(I know, I know, this is neither about the story nor interesting adventures. Sorry but domestic disaster is always going to loom large in this blog, let's face it.)

(Speaking of domestic disaster, the kettle broke on Friday!)
