I was chatting to a friend (thanks to the power of MSN) and happened to ask her what she was giving up for Lent, to which she replied nothing. This isn't to unusal really, not everyone can be bothered to give stuff up (or take up good things instead) but I thought I'd respond as if I was shocked with; "you're not doing Lent!?!?!" when I was told that Lent is an Anglican/Roman Catholic thing and so she didn't do it. Then I actually was shocked.
Is it really such an Anglican/Roman Catholic thing that people who aren't don't do it??? I will admit that I thought it was a Christian thing, but there are several non-Christians at work who have given up various things up for Lent.
I know that it's not really, really important, but the general disregard was still very surprising.......
nb - I've given up pizza and carbonated drinks.....
