Or maybe not, as it would turn out.
I was listening to the radio this afternoon, where a guy from the National Secular Society was trying to convince us that we shouldn't be having Easter when the churches say so (just because it happens to be Easter), as this is far to confusing for people wanting to plan holidays.
Afterall, who knows when Easter is going to be?? Apart from diary makers, the church, astronomers or anyone who can read or count. I mean, the first Sunday after the second full moon after the Spring Equinox is (as well we all really know) simply a pagan festival that we, the Christian Church, have taken over...... though, as this would also pre-date Sundays, I don't know why they (the pagans) would have picked such a day......
I'm certain that the NSS aren't going to get their way with saying the "easter bank holiday" is going to be second Sunday of April, and let the Church celebrate Easter Sunday whenever it really, really is.... if only due to the confusion generated by having two easters within a few weeks of each other. Persumably chocolate easter eggs easter would have to be the Christian one, simply because people who have given up chocolate for lent (as more than just Christians do) would be waiting till then. The 'Rest Of The World' would still be celebrating Easter with us (you know who I mean when I say us) and so these NSS people are basically asking for a Bank Holiday to be put in just for them.
I sense sour grapes........
Have a happy Easter ya'll!!!!
