As I'm sure you have all heard by now, all nwe CoE schools are going to open up to 25% of their admission to non-Christian students. Though some reports I heard said it would be opening up 25% to non-Anglicans.
Not knowing myself if CoE school do accept any church-going child, or if they do demand attendance at an Anglican church it did make me wonder if the reporter was in someway suggesting that only Anglicans were Christians, in which case all non-anglicans might be a bit upset, or if people were getting just a bit too excitable.
The self-opinionated children's author of Shadowmancer, whatever his name is, (Graham P. Taylor) came out saying that all faith schools should in fact accept anyone who wants to go, no matter what their own personal faith, which I though sort of spoilt the whole ethos of a faith school.
I mean, what's the point of being part of this club of Christianity and having really good schools if we're going to let just anyone go to them??? (yes, that's me joking)
On the other hand, this might help aleviate one of my bugbears of parents who go to church just so they can get their kids into the school. Turn up when the missus is pregnant, all very active so the priest knows then and will reconmend them and the moment the child is in the school, thankyou and goodbye. Every now and again when they talk about such things on the radio they get parents who call in saying that, "they made the effort to go to church just to get little Justin or Bethan into the local CoE school, oh it's sooo much better than the local comp...."
Grrrrrr...... where's my smiting stick......???
