Last week I was helping to survey some fields up in Herefordshire. We purposly avoided doing the ditch between the field and the road as it was full. Of trees, hedges and stuff that gets in the way and that you can't walk through. Today, Bob and I were sent back there to do the ditches.
What it meant was that if you happen to drive down Noke Road (just off J21A of the M25) you may note several large 'gaps' in the hedge where we have hacked away vegetation with what we call 'The Slasher'. This is basically a modern-day sythe with a heavey duty handle. Lots of fun!!!
Anyway, that's not really what I'm talking about, or meant to be talking about. You see Bob is from Germany, and having come over from there has a left-hand drive car. Now I've been driven in left-hand drive cars before. In foreign countries where they drive on the WRONG side of the road (Canada, Italy), but this was the first time I've been in the driver's seat and had no stearing wheel or pedals over here. I felt most impressed with myself that I managed not to stamp on imaginary pedals, or look over shoulder during lane changes.
I also noted that the pedals were in the same order (clutch, brake, accel (L-R)) though on the wrong side of the car, obviously, as were the order of the gears (R-1/2-3/4-5).
I also think that the the cold I caught when last in Swansea is over. I say that as I didn't have to blow my nose once yesterday, which was a change from working my way through hankies at rate of knots at it's worse!!!
