I have been reliably told by my inside connections that they start the ballot for who can and who can't run the Flora London Marathon. Now, considering that the closing date was only on Friday and we aren't told the results until December they obviously don't plug all the entries into a computer and let it decide. So I wondered just how the ballot takes place???
While only one in three go through I'd like to think that picking one slip and putting it in the "accepted" bin and then putting two in the "declinded" bin is far to simple. And boring for the workers.
I think that there are a number of different ways in which they pick people to run.
I'd like to think that some are picked in a Crystal Maze style with three people in a giant crystal and the fans blowing with entry-forms flying everywhere.
Or possibly having three hedgehogs rolling around in a pit, with the entry-forms sticking to their spines. The LM staff placing bets on who's going to get the most.
Maybe they fold them into paperboats and sail them down some rapids..... those that make it get through.
You could screw them up into balls and then try to throw them into wastepaper baskets.
Any more suggestions???
