And as the polls open......

Tomorrow the polls open for the US midterm elections. Up for grabs are thirty-three of the one hundred Senate seats, all four hundred and thirty-five seats in the Lower House and thirty-six governorships.

What is making this election interesting is the apparent backlash against the White House Administration and the Republican party over the ongoing chaos in Iraq. Needless to say that this doesn't make it a shoe-in for the Democrats to take all the necessary seats to take control in both houses (15 in the House of Rep's, 6 in the Senate) and make the last two years of Pres. George Bush's time in the White House very difficult.

Afterall, just because someone is against the war doesn't mean that they're going to vote for the other guy in the first place, the other is that the Democrat party can't really say that it was against the war in the first place. They voted for it just like the Republicans did, all they can say now is; 'The Republicans are pro-war, we're not them,' and that's just not gonig to work at the end of the day.

Now, unlike with the presidential election two years ago, I'm not planning on staying up to see how the results are going. Firstly, I'm not too fussed and secondly, I've learnt my lesson after it took two days to decide how Ohio voted...... bloody Ohio.

There is a part of me that really wants the Democrats to do well, but this is simply to spite G. Bush and my general distain of the behaviour of the current Administration. What I do know is that generally the individual members of both parties are nice, good people. Some aren't, but most are nice.
