Well, all the photos are up (and the ones that I want to steal off other websites as well, more to come as they get put up) so I suppose I could tell you about the Christmas Ball.
It was quite a bit of fun (even though I don't like parties if you read the post from when I was there). For those of you who helped pick what I was to wear that evening;
yes, that is a proper tie bowtie and yes, I really am that short. And that sentance is at least 50% right. No, I'm not going to tell you which, but I was chuffed with my tie. Though I shall have to get an orange one to wear with my light (bright) blue shirt. I have an orange tie that goes with it that I wore to a friend's wedding (at the request of the bride) but I'd rather a bowtie for parties.
But I am now waffling.
One of the things I like about the Christmas Ball is that it allows me to bump into friends that I might not normally bump into in the regular hussle-bussle of the day. Especially as I now live a long way-away!!! And what make it that much nicer is that it's like they're all dressed up to see me to boot. Oh my ego knows no bounds!! The one problem with being so far away is that there ae now large swathes of people there that I don't know. This led to an interesting moment that I'll get to later.
Now I am often glad that the hardest choice for me is to decide my shirt/tie combination (with a little help), and tha I don't have to worry about such things shoes as well. Especially as (so I've been told) pointy, high-heels can be a bit painful by the end of an evening. I know this, I wouldn't dare question such a statment. Not everyone is like me. Not everyone then has someone like me who'll go out to charity shops and buy them a pair of high-heel shoes (with the help of their girlfriend) for them to wear to the ball.
shame the nail-varnish didn't really go with his suit. [nb-there are photos of him wearing the shoes, but mine weren't that good because the setting on the camera were changed, and not by me!! But I put them up on Flickr anyway]
The meal was very nice (for a change) and I managed to have two soups and one and a half crème brûlées which was nice. I was also good and didn't get gravy on the dress of Kat, so I wasn't in trouble. That honour went to someone else!!! No, she wasn't happy. (guess who had the other half of crème brûlée)
During the boring bit of the night (the disco) I was introduced to a new person.
which means I now know everyone in this photo. Which is good because otherwise I would have been wondering who the hell the blonde on the right was. But she came over during the evening, said hello, asked how I was (I was playing cards instead of dancing), asked who people were (at least the ones I knew) and gave me a brief life/family/current history. Then I managed to find out her name. It was a very, very odd conversation but at the same time quite fun. Certainly made me wish that I knew some of these new people a bit more.
Hometime came, as usual, far too soon and everyone one was packed off on buses and sent on their merry way.
And with that I shall have to say goodbye as I'm being sent off on a job. By myself, so if it all goes wrong it's my fault, no-one elses..... well, apart from the Boss who sent me!!! ;o)
