It's all coming back.......

Yesterday, but complete accident, I listened to almost only Canadian artists. There was Chantal Kreviazuk, Alanis Morissette and most notably The Arrogant Worms .

The two non-Canadians were the wee Irish pixie Enya and out of Hell for a third time, Meat Loaf.

I have really enjoyed listening to Meat Loaf and his 'Wagnerian Rock'. There is something suitably loud and brash and very, very operatic about it all. You can't imagine an acoustic version, there has to be a full orchestra and then a whole load of electric instruments (guitars, that sort of thing) that you don't normally get with orchestras. And then you need to turn the volume up. And then you need Mr Loaf himself!!

If I were to ever go on Desert Island Disks there is a very strong possibility that Meat Loaf would make an appearance.

One of my favourite tracks is from Bat III is It's All Coming Back To Me Now. The very first time I heard it I knew the words off by heart*, it is an amazing song. It also makes me think of Christmas. It wasn't released at Christmas or anything, but I just find that the looking back, the reminising of a lost love (and being Wagnerian, the release painful emotions), Christmas just suits.

There were nights when the wind was so cold
That my body froze in bed
If i just listened to it right outside the window

There were days when the sun was so cruel
That all the tears turned to dust
And I just knew my eyes were drying up forever

I finished crying in the instant that you left
And I can't remember where or when or how
And I banished every memory you and I had ever made

But when you touch me like this
And you hold me like that
I just have to admit
That it's all coming back to me
When I touch you like this
And I hold you like that
It's so hard to believe
But it's all coming back to me

Meat Loaf, Marion Raven

* - as I discovered, even though it had been written for Meat Loaf and the 'Bat Out Of Hell' series, it had been released on at least two pervious occasions, which is why I knew it before I heard it!!
