Especially as they appear to be rather trigger happy.... do they apply the leathal injesction using a trigger..?? Oh well, doesn't really matter, not in the grand scheme of things.

It seems that Texas wins the prize for reaching the four hundred mark first in state executions, since the Supreme Court lifted the ban on capital punishment in '76.

Ignoring the whole killing someone and the so-called "God fearing" nature of Texans, ignoring the fact that consitutionally, with due-process the loss of life can be legal. What I want to know is how you can say that by having capital punishment on the books is a deterant for crime, when you are having to execute sixteen people a year. That's more than one a month.

In fact, since 1982 (the year in which Texas restarted executions.... wonder how they held off for six years) there has been only one year where they have not killed someone. 1983. Obviously, to keep their average up that means that there are some years where there have been more than sixteen.

1997 - thirty-seven executions, one every ten days.

2000 - forty executions, one every nine days.

I'm sure you won't have to guess too hard at to which butcher was State Govener during those years.

I have said before, that I accept that legally the US has the full right to kill off it's own citizens (and anyone else who's committed a crime, serious crime then) but what I just don't understand is how such an advanced nation relies on such a barbarity of the lethal injection.

When you consider that Saddam Hussain was executed more humanly, in the mess that is Iraq, than they can manage in the second largest state in the union...... a correctly done hanging, an OD of pure heroin, even beheading will all kill someone almost instantly, it makes you wonder what sort of perverse pleasure that they must get by picking a method that take several minutes to be effective and basically kills you by preventing you from breathing.

I wonder if they had a party for reaching their milestone......
