One of the things I have never truely understood..... one of the many things that I have never truely understood, is the way some people turn to me, to ask my advice on what they should do. Especially on topics on which I have absolutly no experience on.
In the lastest case I was advising a friend to move to the far side of the country so she can be with her boyfriend. As she is looking for a job anyway, why not look over there??? Don't know anyone?? Well, the majority of the people who do the job she's interested in are in her age bracket, and so she will get to know them. Join the local sports club and get to know people there. Prehaps doing something like aqua-aerobics and see who does that.....
Have I ever moved across the country for a new place to live?? No.
Have my attempts to meet new people and make new friends over the last year succeed?? Not really.
Was I infact talking out of my arse, and nothing that I was saying could be proved to be true?? Yes.
Was my "advice" taken as good advice and given due thought?? It seems so.
I'm not suggesting that my advice wasn't good. I feel quite certain that it's fairly good advice. But I am making it up as I'm going along.
If anyone would like advice on what to do, on pretty much any topic, my office hours are....... ;o)
