Phew, well.... those who suggested that the Rugby World Cup might be a bit on the predictable side in these knock-out stages have certainly been proved wrong with today's games.
An England team that had been thrashed earlier in the tournament 36-0 by South Africa, vs. an Australian side that hasn't been threatened. Not seriously.
A French team that lost their first game and was unable to finish top of their group, vs. the All Blacks. One of the best teams EVER.
How on earth the semi-final is going to be England - France no-one will know. Can you imagine the shockwaves if Fiji pull something out tomorrow??? The last of the pre-tournament favourites, the third of the Southern Hemisphere Three.
I wonder what the odds on an England - Scotland final are...??
Of course, the rugby isn't the only sport on this weekend. There is the Chinese Grand Prix, in which the pratt Lewis Hamilton has the opportunity of winning the Driver's Championships in his rookie year.
My Guildford Flames, suffering from an extensive injury list, were beaten 7-0 by Milton Keynes.
Sticking with Ice Hockey, but North American hockey, tonight is the busiest NHL night in the '07/'08 season with fourteen games. I'm currently listening to the Toronto Maple Leafs hosting the Montreal Canadians. The score is 1-1 at the end of the first period. For those of you who don't know, the rivalry between the Leafs and the Habs (the nickname for the Canadians) is similar to that between Wales/England in the rugby, England/Australia in cricket, or England/Germany in football.
It's not a hatred, you understand, but a great desire to beat them. By one point or a whole hatful, doesn't matter. It's the win that's important.
If anyone is starting to wonder if I may be slightly competitive I have a Club tournament tomorrow. The only reason I'm going is because I've yet to get the Club record for this round. I won't be happy till I've got them all and I've still got half to go. And once that is done I'm planning on hunting down some obscure rounds that haven't had records posted as no-one has shot them. And getting the Club records for them.
