Three/four times a week I try to go out for a four-five mile walk before I go to bed. It's quite nice, I plug into my mp3 player and I get home about eighty minutes later, feeling just slightly better for having done a little bit of exercise.
I'd been out for about twenty minutes when I was stopped by a girl who was wanting directions to the local train station. I'm will to guess from the large rucksack that she was either just back from holiday (the train station she was walking away from goes to Gatwick) on heading on her way to foreign climes (the station she wanted heads to Heathrow). I pointed her in the direction she wanted to head in and that it was about a twenty minute walk.
It wasn't until I was ten minutes further into my walk that a thought (well, this thought) crossed my mind. I was walking no-where in particular and so there was no reason why I couldn't have offered to carry the rather large rucksack and show her where the station was. I'm sure she'd have said no, but I could have made the offer.
Personally I blame all the damned feminists that are around these days. Offer to carry a bag and you're suggesting that they can't manage. Daren't hold open a door or anything. Nooooo, not without being thought of as a chauvinistic pig.
Well, guess what, I am, so there!!! :p
So, I managed to be nice, but not quite offer the good deed. Will have to remember for next time!!
