Lest we forget..........

Today is Remembrance Sunday, a day in which we wear the Royal British Legion's poppy and remember those from the Armed Services whom have lost their lives in the defence of our freedoms.

Something that I learnt this year is that the Red Poppy is not just a British custom. While I was over in Canada I happened to be in Ottawa, at the War Memorial when they were remembering the vast number of Canadian soliders who had lost their lives in the taking of Vimy Ridge. For some reason the thought that there were forces from other countries just hadn't really crossed my mind before.

Actually, they had a big screen that was showing live pictures from the ceremony at the War Memorial at Vimy Ridge and they did have to call Queen Elizabeth II "The Queen of Canada four times before I realised why there were no British Flags, only Canadian and French.

Act of Remembrance
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning.
We will remember them

Act of Commitment
They were young, as we are young.
They served, giving freely of themselves

To them, we pledge, amid the winds of time,
To carry their torch and never forget.

We will remember them,
We will remember them.
