Now, coming from the country where "standard English" is from it's not so much a case that I think I speak it, I damned well do. But if I had to speak "American" I think speaking "North-Eastern" is best. Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota... places where they have snow in the winter, hot summers and you get to drive round in your pick-up truck with the rifle in the gun rack, trying hard not to end up in an episode of The X-Files or The Outter Limits or something. Like Canada, but with less tasty beer.
And though Minnosota has lost it's hockey franchise (The Stars) to Dallas (boo), Chicago still has the Blackhawks and you're a much shorter plane journey to see some other great teams (The Leafs, The Flames, The Oilers and The Sens.... and I suppose The Habs :p).
Though the real question should be, should I support The Cubs or The White Sox?? Or go the whole nine yards and follow The Blue Jays....??
Decisions, decisions.....
