Which might seem a slightly harsh way to describe the Anglican Church, and I'm certainly not going make a suggestion to which side is which, but there are times when the two sides that could best be described as "Conservative High Church" and "Liberal Low Church" honestly seem to want to have nothing to do with each other. This is a little bit sad considering that we're all supposed to be part of one Catholic Communion, together in the worship of God.
When the Queen opened the new General Synod (I note we do all seem to be happy to have a female Supreme Govenor) she quoted Irving Berlin with; "There may be trouble ahead*", which is not always what we want to hear. Certainly when you're not expecting Morecambe and Wise to turn up.
The thing is, in the grand scheme of things, the ordination of women isn't really a big thing. They can teach the Gospel of Christ just as easily as men can and considering the world today a public tearing of the Church in two over something so trivial can do nothing but harm the Church.
If the Church is going to be representative of the society in which it is found, it is going to have to accept that a woman can indeed teach the Love of God as well as a man can. Women have done a sterling job in the Church since they have been ordained and it is time that those who seem to be unaware as to what modern society is like to open their eyes and realise that you can be a Christian Leader and Female.
You never know, we might also convince them one day that being Gay and a Christian aren't at opposite ends of the spectrum... I'm not going to hold my breath though...
* - I think she actually said that 'things might not always be straightforward', though I suspect the word tumultuous could be used as well....
