Alas, my nice and reliable car that I've been driving for about ten years (and a hundred thousand miles) is no longer as reliable as it used to be. Therefore I have been off looking today for a new(ish) car to replace it.
What I have found so far is a Vauxhaul Astra estate, or a couple of largish Ford Focus hatchbacks.
Now the Astra estate falls under the sensible option. It's got a decent engine, a very large boot and is generally a very nice car... though looks slightly boxy.
The Fords look lovely... larger engines so will have higher running costs and the insurance is slightly higher (but only about twenty quid). The boots are also slightly smaller (well, they're not estates) which means I may not be able to fit all I need to fit. But they look lovely...
As you may guess, the Astra is the sensible choice... the Fords are not... but they are lovely...
I'll try to take a couple of pictures tomorrow.
