Instead of heading out into the countryside, and the high moors, I felt like an easier ride. This means heading down the valley, north east, and that means busy roads and heavy traffic.

Or it did until some disused railway lines were converted for use by walkers, cyclists and horse riders. In many places trees have been planted either side of the path which gives the illusion of it being a rural area, don't be fooled on the left of the picture above are school playing fields and on the right is a railway line and then a chemical works. The area in unashamedly urban and industrial.

Here are some more pictures of the route, Colne Valley Cycleway, Calder Valley Cycleway from Huddersfield to Dewsbury.

Sorry about the dark image. There is housing at the top of the bank and a chemical works at the bottom. Looks good if you chose where to point the camera though.

The greenway is incomplete through Mirfield, So I detoured down the canal tow path.

The bottom picture shows the bridge the greenway goes over, and one of the roads it avoids.

A pleasant place to ride which avoids some dangerous roads.
