Twenty Minutes

Diary of an accident victim Part 41

Wednesday 2nd. July 2008

Today I went into the hospital. (again)

And today I had the procedure done. This is how it went:

8.25am. - Arrived at the hospital reception 8.35 - Shown to the ward 8.35-9.00 - Fill in the paperwork. See the consultant. 9.00 - Taken down to the operating theatre. 9.25 - Operation over, taken back to the ward. Have a coffee and read a bit. 10.30 - Go home.

The first time I saw the consultant he was in his consulting suit. You have to wear a suit to inspire confidence, don't you? The next time he was in his working overalls, which had the appearance of blue short sleeve pyjamas.

To do such a minor procedure takes 6 people. Surgeon, Radiologist, anaesthetist, nurse, porter and patient.First they painted the foot with what looked like fake tan, then brought the x-ray machine over. They showed me the screen, bur as I have little idea what an ankle looks like on the inside, it didn't mean much to me. After that I can't say much about what happened, as a fear of needles kept me from looking towards the ankle. All I know is that words like 'pleasant' and 'comfortable' are not ones that spring to mind.I have now been told to exercise as much as I can, Go for walks and stuff. I go back to see the consultant in six weeks.

to be continued...
