Friday the Thirteenth

Diary of an accident victim Part 27

Friday 13th April 2007

The day for the long awaited consultant's appointment came. This was the private one, the one connected with the compensation claim. After filling in yet another form about the accident (I could have written War and Peace by now with the number of forms I have filled out so far.) I made my way to the surgery, which was fortunately within walking distance. After an interview, in which he amended the statement, he started probing my ankle. Why do doctors say, "Does this hurt?" they know the answer - always OW!It seems I have lost about some movement in my ankle. I asked, "When will I be fully recovered?" The answer was not the one I wanted. It seems like about 10% of the movement the ankle should be able to make is gone permanently, and he recommends physiotherapy on a wobble board - like a skateboard without the wheels - to help with the painful side to side motion. Whether this will be available on the NHS though is another matter, so getting it done privately, at the expense of the other party's insurance company should be going into the negotiations.Anyway, no time to think about it, there is the Manchester St Pixels meet this weekend, with a BBC Radio 4 service on Sunday morning.

Saturday 14th

Meet going well, but in the evening, during Simon's talk on avatar creation, I need to move, the ankle is getting stiff again. I have a dilemma, do I be polite and undisruptive, and stay where I am for the time being, and exercise later, or shall I be rude and get up to exercise the ankle now, possibly disturbing the meeting?I get up. (Sorry Simon) I return after a short walk and stand in the doorway. Amigamia notices that the knee creases on my trousers do mot match up, and on a hunch checks if my pelvis is the same height on both sides. It isn't, it's higher on the right side, the side injured in the accident. She thinks I might need chiropracty to straighten it. Oh the joy of more pain to come.

...to be continued.
