A lark and a conviction

Diary of an accident victim Part 20

Friday 18th August 2006

Work. And a stock take

I was supposed to spend the day keying figures into the computer, however when I got to the office today the computers were all taken by managers from other offices who have been drafted in to help. My task for the day is checking the location of goods in the warehouse, where the number on the computer differs from the manual count. Give the cripple the walking job. Good idea. My manager thinks I can do it, after all he's seen me on my feet in the warehouse. However I cannot walk unaided (without a stick) for more than two hours without suffering the consequences. Each time I've spent an hour on my feet I've needed to rest the leg for more than that. The consequence is that the leg has swollen again, and the amount of pain has increased.

Saturday 19th August

Lark in the Park

Greenhead Park, the local park, once a year puts on two days of concerts of local bands, entertainers etc. "Lark in the Park". Our church and two others (the local Methodists and URC) have a stall selling fairly traded produce, running a quiet tent for prayer or a chat publicising the soon to be run Alpha course and giving away free water. We were expecting mid August weather to be hot. It was not. It rained. And rained. Not only that, but the gazebo we were using as a shelter had been washed and not re-waterproofed, so inside a fine mist was raining down. The park was almost empty. However interest at the stall was good for the number of people present. I'm not feeling good, I decide not to help on the Sunday.

Monday 21st August

A letter arrives from the local Police saying that the driver of the car that hit me will be in front of the Magistrates on Wednesday, on a charge of driving without due care and attention. Over five months waiting and then this short notice.

Tuesday 22nd August

Interview with the solicitor. This means that even more forms are on the way, at least she says my chance of getting compensation looks good.

Thursday 24th August

I contact the Magistrates court. The guy that hit me has been fined £100 with £40 costs, plus 6 penalty points on his licence. Not a great amount of money, but now that the courts say he did it the road to compensation now gets shorter. Just the legal forms to sort through, that should be fun.

...to be continued.
