Discharge.

Diary of an accident victim Part 19

Wednesday 26 July 2006

Back to hospital for a check up. Very quick. The doctor pressed his thumb where the break had been and asked, Does this hurt?" (Anyone with experience of doctors knows this is a rhetorical question.) Apparently the break is continuing to heal slowly, but it is now at the stage where he is willing to discharge me, but if I have problems to go back. I should be happy but can't help thinking about being discharged. Discharge - an artillery term for being fired. Discharge - something which makes a battery useless. And I only have to remember a few months back to remember what discharge meant with regard to wounds. So should I be happy to be discharged? What I'm not happy about are the claim forms for compensation. How do they expect someone injured to be able to lift all that paperwork?

...to be continued.
