Kamikaze Rabbit

Diary of an accident victim Part 17*

Monday 19th June 2006

Back to work. I knew I'd be back before the World Cup was over And back to cycling. I find that cycling is easier than walking, without the constant impact of the foot repeatedly hitting the ground. Today I was shown an easy office job - easy as in non-physical - where I spend most of my time in front of a computer screen inputting data. This is a temporary position for the next four weeks. Today I was shown how to do the job, but probably spent more time telling people about the accident than I did working. Some are telling me I'm mad for getting back on a cycle at all.

Tuesday 20th June

I actually get to do the job today. Yesterday's excuse, The works' managers were amongst those talking about the accident and keeping me from working. This evening watched England draw 2-2 with Sweden to qualify as group leaders for the next round of the World Cup.

Thursday 22nd June

Only the fourth day back cycling, and almost the first accident. I was descending a steep hill at the usual speed for a cyclist on a steep hill when a flash of grey went across my path. A rabbit, with as much observation of road conditions as a motorist 14 weeks earlier, had missed my front wheel by inches. If nothing else cycling keeps your reactions sharp.

...to be continued.
