Happy Saint David's day

Forty blogs of Lent

Day 15

Today is Saint David's day. But who was saint David, and why would a Yorkshireman be writing about the Welsh Patron Saint? The answer is Saint Paulinus, Bishop of York and baptiser of many in the river Calder at Dewsbury. He was also the teacher of David. So having established a tenuous link who was David? What we do know is that he founded a monastery, helped spread Christianity to Wales, became Archbishop of Wales and.... not a lot more is known other than that Menevia, which was renamed St Davids in his honour, became a place of pilgrimage. So happy St David's Day.   ---   *That's Saint David in Welsh.
