Act like you mean it

Holy Trinity Huddersfield, Morning worship 16th December.

At yesterday's service our lay reader, Pam, did the sermon, based on the Gospel reading from Luke chapter 3. John the Baptist is preaching, and it isn't the sort of sermon designed to make friends. "You brood of Vipers" is how he starts. Nothing like testing the sincerity of your hearers. But a lot of the advice is practical, telling tax gatherers not to cheat in the amount they collect, soldiers not to extort money from people. What he is saying is that thse are the standards of Go'd kingdom. If you are in God's kingdom, live as if you are in it.

Newtown and Westboro

We seem to have been talking a lot about prophets in church this Advent. On the same subject, prophesy, but unrelated to Holy Trinity Church, I hear that Westboro Baptist Church in the USA are saying that the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, Connecticut are God's gudgement. A Prophet is supposed to bring people's attention to God, these people bring attention on themselves, a sure sign of prophecy.
