Christingle and The Very Reverend Elton

I have had had a tip-top day.

Picked SBW up and then we went to church which was good. I was chatting to one of the leaders and said to him ‘You remember I told you about the guy I met on the internet who helped me to come back to church? Well here he is!' Quite an entertaining moment for me, and more so for the church leader I think.

After that we went for lunch in St Albans and decided to wander down to the Abbey for a little look around. When we got there they had just started their Christingle service. Well I had absolutely no idea what it was (please don't call me stupid!) and therefore did not know what to expect. It was lovely and the Abbey was absolutely packed and I was a bit surprised to be handed an orange with a candle and some stuff stuck in it. The funniest bit though was watching The Very Reverend Jeffrey John doing his stuff. Possibly the most entertaining bit was him standing in the pulpit talking about the symbolism of the candle and reminding everyone to be careful when holding them at which point he dropped it over the edge of the pulpit and had to rush down the stairs to pick it up. SBW also thinks that he looks like Elton John... I think The Very Reverend Elton has a certain ring to it! The service was really lovely, especially when they dimmed the lights and everyone held up their Christingle and it made me feel really Christmassy. It was all going so well until the last song was Shine Jesus Shine.

So all-in-all it was a really lovely weekend :)
