Baptisms

Well I have had a pretty good day. This afternoon Auntie Billie and I went to a baptism in London. The guy getting baptised became a Christian about 18 months or so ago and has really been moving on in his faith. The only spanner in the works is that he is gay and therefore he has really struggled to find a church who will accept him. He has been attending a group in London who support gay Christians and I have been involved with that group for years because of my friends. Anyway, the baptism today was wonderful and a real expression of his faith. The guy who gave the talk spoke really clearly about how baptism marks a new start for people but also about the sadness that Jonathan was unable to be baptised by his local church as he has yet to find one that will accept him for being who he is.

I was really moved by the whole meeting; by the expression of love from all the people who were there, gay or straight, and by the gentle acceptance of the minister of the church whose baptistery they borrowed. The gay issue has such polarised opinions and I find it hard to see through the moral maze sometimes. What I do know is that I love my friends and I will stand by them whatever happens and it delights me to be able to share in such important events with them.
