Castel Election HustingsNext Wednesday Guernsey islanders get the opportunity to vote for their next politicians. Over here we have a completely different governmental system as we do not have party politics. The island is split up into 10 parishes and each parish is able to elect a number of deputies which is proportional to the population of the parish. If fortunate enough to be elected they will sit in the States of Deliberation and make decisions about the government and running of our lovely island. Each candidate who is running for the deputy positions will campaign themselves and there are also public hustings. This is where we went tonight and we listened to them give a short account of why we should vote for them, and then they answered questions. It was a well run but long hustings. So, now to whittle down 13 candidates and decide on my votes.
