Sometimes people just take me by surprise. Fifteen minutes before I was due to leave the office today one of my clients phoned. Usually she is unbelievably hard to get off the phone and she moans about anything and everything at great length, so my heart sank when I heard it was her. Last week I had to tell her that I wouldn't be able to keywork her and her husband anymore as they are stable and not using illicit drugs and we have managed to sort out most of their social issues and as a result I have to move onto working with more chaotic clients who need crisis intervention. Anyway, she just phoned today to thank me and to tell me how important the work that I had done with them had been. She thanked me for proving to her that people could be reliable, and honest and would do what they said would do, and she said that this in turn had helped improve her relationship with her father who has always let her down in the past.
I was really shocked by her honesty, her kindness and her graciousness in making this phone call and little did she know but it was exactly the sort of phone call I needed. :)
