The finer things in life...

I have had the most fabulous evening. My aunt and uncle invited me to join them and their son for dinner at Simpson's which is on The Strand. It is my cousin Paul's 30th birthday tomorrow (yes he was born on 07/07/77!) so this was to celebrate his birthday. I had no idea where we were going for dinner other than to be told “no jeans and no trainers”. Simpson's is just an amazing place. It opened in 1828 and is well known as a venue where gentleman played chess, drank coffee and smoked cigars. It is just the most beautiful English restaurant and needless to say I would never be able to afford to go there in a million years in normal circumstances.

One of their specialties is roast rib beef which was just divine and we shared one of the dessert platters which gave us a bit of everything to try. So the surroundings were gorgeous, the food was amazing and the company was pretty good too. It was lovely to be able to spend some time with my aunt, uncle and cousin as we get relatively little time together. One of the nicest things though is that they are extremely sympathetic to how difficult I am finding the fact that my sister is getting married again. They allow me the opportunity to air how I feel without making me feel like I am being inappropriate or outrageous. Instead they made me feel that my emotions are OK and that I am not alone in thinking some of the things I have been thinking!!!

After dinner we wandered down to Trafalgar Square as it was the opening evening for the Tour de France and we briefly saw Lemar performing on stage.

So, all in all a fabulous evening which I really needed. The main problem is I could get used to being that posh!!!

Ps) here is the card I made Paul for his birthday... I am the left in the picture and Paul is on the right!
