Well this year I have decided to continue doing the books I have have been reading posts, but without pictures as they were always a bit of a pain in the arse to sort out at times! How much I write about a book is bound to vary on whether I loved it or not, of course if there is a book that I think is AMAZING and everyone should read it then I might blog more about it. Get it? Got it? Good.
The Bodies Left Behind by Jeffrey Deaver was a pretty good read. Scarey with plenty of suspense this book kept me guessing to the end as to 'whodunnit'. The bodies of a professional couple are found in a cottage in the middle of nowhere and one of their friends is missing. A policewoman goes to investigate, nearly gets shot and then a chase through the first commences. Not a bad read at all.
Velocity by Dean Koontz took me ages to read - nearly a week, which is a very, very long time for me. I just didn't get into it. on returning to his car one night a bartender finds a note from a killer asking him to make a choice about who dies next. What follows next is a game of cat and mouse, lots of murders and to be perfectly honest I can't even remember who the murderer was. Disappointing!
Tribute by Nora Roberts was a good but rather meandering read. Child actress Cilla McGowen buys her granmother's old farm and goes about renovating it. Whilst she is doing so vandals target her property and harm her and her friends. Rather predictably she also meets and falls in love with a hot man. A typical NR book but a good read.
Kiss by Jill Mansell was a rather ludicrous but funny book. Wannabe singer Izzy is just about getting by, with a very sensible teenage daughter who keeps her on the straight and narrow. Life changes considerably when she is knocked off her bike and she can't pay her rent and loses her home. She and her daughter move in with Gina, the woman who knocked her off her bike, and that is where the ridiculousness starts. Silly but funny!
The Gap Year for Grown Ups by Annie Sanders is a pretty good read about a woman who has a mid-life crisis, leaves her husband and goes off to live in France. Both she and her husband have affairs whilst they are apart and they reunite in a happy ending. Marvellous!
Strange Fits of Passion by Anita Shreve is such a tedious read I can't even be bothered to explain what it is about.
Have You Seen Her by Karen Rose is a cracking read and I think I might have found my new favourite crime author. A detective Steven Thatcher is chasing a serial killer when he falls in love with one of his son's school teachers who becomes a target of the murderer. Whilst this is a crime novel, the characters are really well developed. I hope the next novel from the writer that I read isn't rubbish!
