I make it home after the mother of all journeys.
OK it all started with the flight. I was due to leave on the 5.10 flight from Guernsey. All was well, we got onto the plane, taxied to the runway only for the pilot to come on the tannoy to say a warning light had appeared. So, we all traipse off the plane back into the departure lounge where we sit and wait. Eventually they let us back on board and we arrive at Gatwick airport at least 2 hours late.
This is where the journey gets nightmarish. Usually I get the train directly from Gatwick to St Albans and a friend picks me up and drops me at home. No changes and not too many stairs, which is very important when you have a suitcase which weighs 27 kilos. However, today the trains were not running directly which means that I have to face the underground. I had hoped that I might have been able to get the coach which would have taken me almost all the way home, but the plane going technical bollocksed that one up for me. So, instead of a nice, easy, direct route I have to go from Gatwick Airport to London Bridge, walk half a mile to get to the Northern Line which takes me to Kings Cross and then I have to wait for the next train at 10.41. At Hatfield station i was confronted with a huge staircase and not one bastard offered to help me with my very heavy suitcase. I finally arrived home at 11.30pm and I am knackered.
When I got in I then found that my wireless broadband wasn't working, but happily that has been fixed by the nice people at BT who sorted it out remotely for me (I have to say that their customer service has been fab and unaccustomed as I am to being positive about companies I really rate them)
So, I am home, safe and sound, luggage intact and ready for bed. Thankfully I had the foresight to book tomorrow off work so I can stay in bed before collecting my pussy cat from the cattery!
NB. I should also say that I had just about got to the end of this blog entry when I accidentally deleted it and had to start again. Pah!!!
