OK, since the beginning of the year I have read three books.
Firstly, The Summons - John Grisham. I read this book because I was at my parents' house and I had run out of books and needed an easy read. The story follows Ray Atlee after the death of his father who leaves an expected 'gift' in his house. This is a fairly typical Grisham novel, but if you want an easy read this fits the bill. Definitely not one I will bother re-reading, but it was OK.
Next, Northern Lights and The Subtle Knife, by Philip Pullman, both of which are part of His Dark Materials Trilogy. I started reading the first book after being told in church that I shouldn't read it or see the film The Golden Compass which is based on the book Northern Lights, as they were anti-Christian. So, in defiance I decided to read and make up my own mind. I absolutely loved both books and found them utterly un-put-down-able, which is probably why I have read both of them in three days. The first book follows the story of Lyra and her adventures on a journey across different worlds and plains. The second book continues the story of Lyra and introduces her companion Will. I won't say any more, but I definitely recommend these as a brilliant read. I just have to go and get the final part now to see what happens!!
