51or8uxhyjl_sl500_aa240_1The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs expecting a schmaltzy read. In some ways that it exactly what I got, but I absolutely loved it! The book is about Georgia Walker, the owner of a wool shop, the mother of a mixed race child, and the unexpected ringleader of the Friday night knitting club. The book follows her sadness and anger at the break-up of her relationship with the father of her child, but it also charts the reconciliation that follows, not only with him but also with old friends and family.

I think what I loved most about this book is the way that a bunch of different and random people are drawn together by their love of knitting, but that almost becomes superfluous to the relationships that are developed. The community that is created is touching and honest and the sorts of relationships that most people would love to have. Whilst I saw the ending coming I kept holding my breath hoping that it wasn't going to work out the way I expected and I have to admit that I cried my way through the last two chapters. Lovely :)
