Well - as the title says really! This week I put adverts in local newspapers in an attempt to get some more tutees. I 've had loads of enquiries but only 1 definite tutee has come from it.. Plus I've arranged to go a see 2 people only to have them cancel at the last minute. I know that his will happen but it's upsetting and annoying especially when I've turned down agency work in order to be free in time and have enough energy to go and see them.
I also survived teaching PE at a local high school on Tuesday! Actually quite amusing in some ways. The agency sent me as a teaching assistant but when I got there I found out that they actually wanted a (non-specialist) teacher for girls' PE. Always happy to oblige(!) Ithought... well I'm here now... how bad can it be!
Meet the Year 9 class from H*ll!
Some of them insisted they were going to wear their socks in the hall. While I was in the changing room sorting out the sock brigade ("You may wear socks and trainers or have bare feet but not just socks cos you'll slip" and "Well you have the choice - you either do as I say or you get sent out of the lesson" etc) the rest of the class had a) thrown a tennis ball up so high in the ceiling it had smashed a fluorescent light tube (despite the tube being enclosed in a metal cage) b) got out the ropes halfway and were swinging on them, c) let down a balancing beam and were "playing" on that! (I'd previously told them we wouldn't be getting the gym equipment out "No especially not the trampoline" and that we would be playing indoor "quick" cricket!
Amazingly when I did my teacherly "just what do you think you are doing" and "I've taught 5 year olds better behaved than you" act, they actually took some notice! I only had to send one out of the lesson!
Actually I'd been warned about the class and as I knew they were definitely going to misbehave, I had decided that there was no way in one lesson I'd get them to be any different. This meant that I didn't stress too much about it and actually found it quite amusing - sort of!
But - still not really earning enough money to live on and beginning to wonder if I'm taking the right way forward! (Plus easily having doubts about whether I really am a good tutor etc). Prayers would be really appreciated!
