Happy New Year! (must try harder!)

Well I'm not sure how this has happened but it is nearly the end of February and this is my first "proper" blog of 2007. Please forgive me for this most serious lack of communication. I will try harder in future (even if it means putting blogging on my "to do" list again!) Will you believe me if I say I have blogged mentally many times but just haven't got around to actually typing it! There are so many things that I've been thinking of telling you about so please excuse me again if I don't get them all down tonight. You may have to wait for a few instalments.

Well most prominent for me at the moment is the death of my Grandpa. He died last Monday. You know it's really strange. He was nearly 95 and had been slowly deteriorating for some while so it was hardly unexpected, but even so, when he finally did die it was still a real shock. It's as though there is something inside that just doesn't believe that death should happen. I feel sad and angry and upset (and tired) but I guess all this is pretty common to anyone experiencing a bereavement.

So as a family we are in the throes of organising a funeral at present. Before he started suffering from dementia, my Grandpa was always ardently anti-religion in any form and has stipulated in his will that he did not want a religious funeral. So it will be a humanist affair. Strangely enough I think this has given us more freedom to "think outside the box" in terms of what will take place. It is going to be a positive celebration of his life and is being informally but affectionally referred to amongst some of us as "Grandpa: The Musical". He always loved more or less any sort of music from Brahms to the Beetles, not forgetting that modern musician "Dan Morrison" - though I suspect he meant "Van"! The reception afterwards will have a "licorice allsorts" theme to the table decorations as he was such a lover of licorice (That's my job - not exactly sure what I am going to do yet!). Even more appropropriate then that his funeral ceremony will be at Pontefract Crematorium.

Well I guess that's about all for this instalment. I hope to blog again fairly soon!
