Oh boy - right now I hate technology!

I haven't been online much recently. A week last Wednesday my printer finally gave up the ghost ( nearly 3 years old, but I do use it loads for tutoring so it dies get really hammered!). Needing a replacement urgently I went out and bought one ( Canon MP510) but had difficulties finding a suitable printer driver on my version of linux. I know next to nothing about Linux so have been limping along a bit using it over the last year. I contacted my friend who is knowledgeable about computers and he said he would install a really up to date version of linux which should have the driver on. So - he had my computer for a week and a bit as he was very busy ( I dutifully backed up all my important files on a memory stick first) I finally got my computer back last night to find that teh only driver which worked, did not work very well (ie no ability to change print quality and not printing out pictures properly)

I finally decided that I need to go back to Windows which I know how to use and where I can use the disk that came with my computer, so said friend is coming on Monday to help me sort this out.

Meanwhile, before I'd given up on linux, ( I hope you are still following) I'd moved all my files over onto my hard drive ( move you note, not copied!). When I decided to give up and go back to windows, I thought I'd better get everything back on the memory stick! Things kind of crashed ( don't ask me why) part way through moving. I seem to have no files on the memory stick ( but a load of tabs that I don't understand with some of my folders on - nothing happens when you click on it though!) and folders with no files in them left on my hard drive!

Arrgh - this is 2 years worth of tutoring work you understand, plus financial and other important paperwork.

Fortunately some of my later folders on the hard drive (of which worksheets is one) do still seem to have files in them, but the computer won't copy it over onto my memory stick for some reason!

I'm hoping my friend will be able to help me retrieve at least some of my work on Monday!

Stress stress stress stress stress!
